Responsibilities

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of various types of heavy machinery and equipment.

Depending on the employer and the industry, the employee may be required to work with equipment used primarily in the construction, manufacturing, public works, mining, or transportation sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on heavy equipment;
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic problems;
  • Conduct inspections and identify malfunctions and parts that need to be replaced;
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble the various components;
  • Make the necessary adjustments, settings, and fine-tuning;
  • Perform work on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components;
  • Use various diagnostic tools and equipment;
  • Conduct tests after repairs to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly;
  • Complete maintenance and repair reports;
  • Comply with occupational health and safety standards and company procedures;
  • Work with maintenance teams, operators, and supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in heavy equipment mechanics;
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical problems;
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • A sense of responsibility, thoroughness, and a commitment to doing the job right;
  • Good physical condition and the ability to work in a variety of environments;
  • A valid driver's license, as required by the position;

Training

  • Vocational or technical training in heavy equipment mechanics, diesel mechanics, industrial mechanics, or a related field;
