Technical Project Manager

The role of the technical project manager (L1) is to carry out a project, to manage the technical execution of the projects and to manage the relationship with the clients. He usually manages a few projects with a limited number of clients, the number of projects and clients being adjusted by his technical involvement in his projects. The scope of projects is adjusted by his experience as a project manager. Reporting to the Director, the Project Manager also contributes to client relations and business development activities, in addition to participating in coordination meetings.

Responsibilities

Project Management (20%):

  • Ensure the management of its projects, ensuring compliance with the objectives of quality (technical), schedule and budget;
  • Define the needs, in collaboration with the client;
  • Verify that the service offering meets the client's needs and PCI's expectations, with respect to technical aspects, schedule and budget;
  • Build a team, in collaboration with its director, according to the needs of the project;
  • Set up communication and monitoring tools for the project;
  • Organize and conduct project meetings and progress monitoring;
  • Communicate frequently and keep the client informed of the progress, changes and challenges associated with the project;
  • Monitor the progress of the project to ensure that it is on time and on budget;
  • Conduct projections to ensure budgets and schedules are met;
  • Identify and document items that are not part of the mandate, assess their impact (financial and schedule) and inform the client;
  • Approve time and expense sheets for his projects each period;
  • Follows up with administration to ensure that invoices are paid according to the terms and informs his/her manager if there are any problems.

Technical Participation in Projects (60%):

The Technical Project Manager actively participates in the technical activities of the projects, while fulfilling his/her project management obligations.

  • Participate in project execution (programming, electrical design, commissioning, etc.) as required by the project without interfering with other duties of the project manager;
  • Act as a technical reference for his/her project team (if applicable);
  • Identify internal or external technical resources to complement the team's knowledge.

Client Management/Business Development (10%):

The Technical Project Manager participates in sales efforts with clients and assists managers in their sales efforts. Duties include:

  • Represent the company by ensuring a positive image and relationship with its customers;
  • Become familiar with PCI's mission, vision and values;
  • Become familiar with PCI's areas of expertise and the services to be offered to the client;
  • Visit clients to discuss potential projects;
  • Follow up on active service offers or propose the complete services of the company;
  • Conduct needs assessments during client visits, sometimes with the assistance of his/her manager;
  • Provide customer service to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and be the point of contact for customers.

Internal Coordination (10%):

  • Participate in department meetings;
  • Discusses resource needs (hiring, training, etc.) with manager;
  • Participate in project manager committees to advance methods and tools.

Qualifications

  • Have 5 years of experience in the field of industrial automation;
  • Have leadership, initiative, judgment, thoroughness and good work organization ;
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and relationship skills;
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, based on respect, diplomacy, discernment and oriented towards finding win-win solutions;
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiating skills under pressure;
  • Be a good communicator and a master in the art of teamwork and collaboration ;
  • Be able to find new ways to get work done more efficiently, plan and organize work around deadlines and the potential of existing employees;
  • Be methodical and documented.

Training

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
