The Industrial Controls team is responsible for providing the appropriate resources, methods, tools and engineering processes to enable the company to achieve its objectives.

As an Industrial Controls and Automation Programmer, your role will be to design and implement automation programs for manufacturing process automation solutions for our world-class customers.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information, perform root cause analysis to understand technical issues and validate requirements and understanding of issues with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Generate new functionality for control systems and modify existing solutions which may include the following logic: PLC and user interfaces;
  • Determine test strategies and create test plans using a variety of test vehicles (e.g., simulators, factory test benches, on-site validation) ;
  • Execute test plans and produce test reports to document results and demonstrate compliance with requirements;
  • Contribute to and, in some cases, lead improvement initiatives (e.g., changes to existing processes, methods and tools);
  • Participate in the presentation of the systems to the customer for acceptance;
  • Implement the equipment in the factory, make final adjustments and corrections;
  • Provide technical support to customers after commissioning;
  • Document systems and train operators as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g. Allen Bradley and/or B&R and Beckhoff, etc.) ;
  • Experience with user interfaces (e.g. FactoryTalk View, WinCC);
  • Ability to travel within Canada and the United States approximately 10-25% of the time;
  • Sense of organization, autonomy and resourcefulness;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to develop and define the content of tasks based on a well-defined objective.

Assets

  • Experience with industrial computer programming languages an asset (C ++, C #, Java, JavaScript, etc.) ;
  • Experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages, especially Ladder, Structured Text and Sequential Function Chart;
  • Knowledge of PackML and S88 standards;
  • Experience with versioning tools (e.g. Asset Center, Application Code Manager, Git) ;
  • Knowledge of industrial networking is an asset (Ethernet IP, DeviceNet).

Training

  • Degree in a related field.
